The weak-atheist passively disbelieves in a God. s/he has heard the question of whether or not there is a God and refuses to answer because no available evidence exists in either direction. The question itself is meaningless. In practice, agnosticism and weak-atheism are identical and strong-atheism is often translated as just atheism when the two are mentioned together. With approximately 1.2-1.3 billion adherents, it is the world's second-largest religion. Islam is considered an Abrahamic religion along with Judaism and Christianity. Followers of Islam are known as Muslims. Muslims believe in only one God (Arabic: Allāh) who has revealed his word to humanity through many earlier prophets, and that Muhammad was the final prophet. Muslims believe that the core message of Islam, submission to God, has been the essential message in the teaching of all God's prophets. The faith went through a period of rapid expansion after Muhammad's death in the 7th century. Like most ancient religions, there are sects. Islam is no different. The major sects in Islam are the Sunnites and the Shiites. The Sunnites are the largest group and comprise about 90% of all Muslims. And yet, there are militant atheists who insist that they are Jews! Is Judaism a race? Clearly, there is a religion called Judaism, a set of ideas about the world and the way Jews should live their lives that is called "Judaism." Outlining Jewish beliefs is more difficult than you might expect. Judaism has no dogma, no formal set of beliefs that one must hold to be a Jew. In Judaism, actions are far more important than beliefs, although there is certainly a place for belief within Judaism. Judaism has great flexibility about certain aspects of those beliefs, and a lot of disagreement about specifics, but that flexibility is built into the organized system of belief that is Judaism. However, many people who call themselves Jews do not believe in that religion at all! More than half of all Jews in Israel today call themselves "secular," and don't believe in G-d or any of the religious beliefs of Judaism. Half of all Jews in the United States don't belong to any synagogue. They may practice some of the rituals of Judaism and celebrate some of the holidays, but they don't think of these actions as religious activities. Clearly, then, there is more to being Jewish than just a religion. The best explanation is the traditional one given in the Torah: that the Jews are a nation. The Hebrew word, believe it or not, is "goy." They use the word "nation" not in the modern sense meaning a territorial and political entity, but in the ancient sense meaning a group of people with a common history, a common destiny, and a sense that they are all connected to each other. Jews are, in short, an enormous extended family. First, if Christianity happens to be true in the broader sense, how do you make sense of the different denominations with everybody saying they are right? Second, what are the basics of Christianity? Those who belong to a particular denomination do so because they think the teachings in that denomination are accurate. Here is a metaphor for those who like to complain about all the denominations. There are many baseball teams and coaches. Each coach coaches according to a set of principles that he thinks are the best for producing the best team. He could say that his way is right, but the others think their way is right. The fact is, they are all playing baseball with the same set of fundamental rules. Within the context of those rules, there are variations, but the fundamental game is the same. Christianity is much like that. The variations that people point to aren't the kinds of things that undermine the basic truth claims of Christianity. The fundamental truth claims of Christianity are basic. Christianity stands or falls on those things, and not on the parochial particulars. The particulars of Christianity entail four basic things: Your view of God, your view of creation, your view of humanity, and your view of salvation. If you take any of these four elements out, you don't have Christianity. THE BIBLE, THE QUR’AN AND OTHER SACRED TEXTS OF THE WORLD (RS-117/3.5 CH): The sacred texts from the world's religions are an inspiring testament to the universality of the human spirit. In the ancient world, before the proliferation of print, seekers of wisdom thought it a great privilege to learn a text, and sought oral instruction from a Teacher in the quest for enlightenment. Many religions and spiritual movements believe that their sacred texts (or scriptures) are the "Word of God", often feeling that the texts are wholly divine or spiritually inspired in origin. Even non-believers often capitalize the names of sacred scriptures as a mark of respect or tradition. Attitudes to sacred texts differ. Some religions make written texts widely freely available, while others hold that sacred secrets must remain hidden from all but the loyal and the initiate. Most religions promulgate policies defining the limits of the sacred texts and controlling or forbidding changes and additions. Some religions make texts available gratis or in subsidized form; others require payment and the strict observance of copyright. THE RELIGIONS OF INDIA – (RS-118/6.0 CH): Since at least the eighteenth century, India has been associated as a land of religion. What is unique about India as a 'land of religions' is that it is the birthplace of several major world religions. Three-fourths of the people describe themselves as adherents of Hinduism, the oldest continuous faith in the world. India is equally a land of other faiths: the world's second largest population of Muslims, nearly 130 million in number, is to be found in India, and there are also some 25 million Christians. In antiquity, Buddhism flourished in India, and it is in Bodh Gaya that the Buddha gained enlightenment; his great contemporary, Mahavira, is the founder of Jainism, also uniquely Indian. Sikhism, another Indian faith, is often imagined as the Protestantism of Hinduism. Ayyavazhi, is an Indian-born religious systems that is strong and influential not only in India but across the world. India also has the largest community of Zoroastrians, also known as Parsees, and though in recent years the once-thriving and very old Jewish community of Cochin has all but disappeared, the small Jewish community of Bombay still makes its presence felt in the public realm. But all these are only the institutionalized forms of religious worship in India, and a bewildering array of other religious practices are encountered all over India. THE RELIGIONS OF CHINA – (RS-119/4.5 CH): It has often been said that the Chinese are not deeply religious. It is true that they have shown a comparative indifference to metaphysical speculation; Chinese culture was perhaps the first to develop an intellectual skepticism concerning the gods. Attempts to manipulate the forces which shape the human and natural worlds have been a key element in all China's religious traditions. Popular religion has always been dismissed as 'superstition' by the intelligentsia, particularly Marxists. Yet the various folk traditions in the religion of the rural masses have a comparable preoccupation with this worldly concerns, expressed in earthbound beliefs in the gods of the family and the soil. The importance of religion in the history of China is greater than it appears at first sight. At the same time, it is true that Chinese people have not tended to express their awareness of the spiritual through the formulation of dogmas and through metaphysical speculations. Chinese people are no less concerned with ultimate questions of human life and destiny than any other people, but because their mode of expression has been so different from that of European culture, their way of asking these questions has not easily been subsumed under western definitions of 'religion'. Chinese spirituality has been expressed through painting and poetry, through a sense of unity with the cosmos and the world of nature. Buddhist and Daoist influence on art and poetry has been immense and through this they have entered the mainstream of Chinese tradition. It is a tradition that is profoundly ethical, but sees human beings in relationship to each other and to the cosmos. It is organic and dynamic. It understands the importance of people within the family and society. Although the term "indigenous religions" includes a great variety of faith traditions, they are united not only by being native practices of a given region, but also by a special relationship to the land. The rapid and extensive spread of the various European powers from the early 15th Century onwards had a profound impact upon many of the indigenous cultures with whom they came into contact. The exploratory and colonial ventures in the Americas, Africa, Asia and the Pacific often resulted in territorial and cultural conflict, and the intentional or unintentional displacement and devastation of the indigenous populations. NEOPAGAN OR REVIVAL RELIGIONS (RS-124/3.5 CH): One important thing to remember is that Paganism isn't a religion any more than Monotheism is a religion. Both Paganism and Monotheism are collective terms used to group very different religions that happen to share a few important classifying traits in common. For example, Monotheism includes the all the various forms of Judaism, Christianity and Islam (and many minor faiths). The beliefs of the individual religions grouped under the term "Pagan" probably vary even more than (say) Reform Judaism differs from Shiite Islam. As Wicca is currently the most well-known modern Pagan religion, many people tend to assume that all modern Pagans share the specific beliefs of Wicca (e.g. belief in a God and Goddess, the eight festival "wheel of the year," the Wiccan Rede, etc.). That assumption is simply incorrect. People who make that assumption generally end up very confused when they encounter some of the many modern Pagan religions that are not based on Wicca. NON-REVEALED OR NATURAL RELIGIONS (RS-125/2.5 CH): A revealed religion is one that is based on Faith and Revelation. Essentially, God revealed his existence, law and will to an emissary called a prophet and then the prophet carried it to the world. On the other hand, a natural religion is one that tends to be based on Nature. This type believes that Gods existence is not revealed by direct revelation or philosophies not transmitted by a divine prophet but generally by observing nature and how it functions. From these descriptions it is obvious that most religions are a combination of the two but every religion will fall more into one category more than the other. Natural theology is the branch of philosophy concerned with what can be known or rationally believed about God on the basis of human reason. It includes both the development and analysis of arguments for God's existence, as well as reflection on the nature and attributes of God. Frequently called "evil" and "dark" by non Satanic religions, the followers of the left hand path often have had to remain in the darkness or face severe persecution from the religions that call themselves "good". Left-hand-path religions are concentrated on individualism, freethought, intelligence and outstanding abilities and gifts. The term "left hand path" may have entered the West's vocabulary from the East via either the teachings of Helena Blavatsky and the Theosophists or from the shamanist Tatar invasions. The association of the left with diabolism, devilry, outstanding talent, psychic abilities and the right with goodness is so ancient it defeats investigation. SYNCRETIC RELIGIONS (RS-127/4.0 CH): Almost all religions on earth are syncretic in some sense. Orthodox religions will try to protect their purity, nullify it, and carry on as before. Syncretic religions, on the other hand, allow these new elements inside and there is a fusion between the old and the new. While orthodoxy has more to do with maintaining things as they are, syncretism has more to do with allowing change to occur. Central and South America produced a rich variety of syncretic religions in the form of Santeria, Voudoun, Candomble and others, which are a dynamic synthesis of Native American, West African and Catholic religious beliefs, stories and practices. While many religions start out with syncretic roots, over time they may shift towards a more orthodox stance, where they try to maintain the purity of that particular niche which they have carved out for themselves. Both syncretic and orthodox traditions seek to provide unity among a group of people. In orthodox religions, unity is provided by a uniformity or consistency of belief. Syncretic religions will seek unity through the fusion of their disparate systems. In a broad sense, the word "entheogen" refers to artificial as well as natural substances that induce alterations of consciousness similar to those documented for ritual ingestion of traditional shamanic inebriants, even if it is used in a secular context. So an entheogen is "that which causes (a person) to be in God". The number of entheogen-using cultures is large. NEW RELIGIOUS MOVEMENTS – VOLUME IV – WESTERN MAGICAL AND ESOTERIC NRMs (RS-132/5.0 CH): Many people, dissatisfied with their society’s own traditional religions, have turned to the traditional religions of foreign cultures, which are often viewed as more exotic, more mystical, or more “authentic.”  Thus, Asian religions have made significant inroads into Europe and North America.  Although such Asian religions are often thousands of years old in their own right, they seem “new” when transplanted to the West, and thus function socially as NRMs.  In the process of transplantation, the beliefs and practices of foreign religions are often transformed, sometimes almost beyond recognition. DEFINING MODERN MEDIUMSHIP (SS-105/3.0 Credit Hours): This 14-lesson course offers a broad conspectus of the field of spiritual mediumship and its multiple manifestations, from ancient times to the present day. It describes, explains and analyzes esoteric practices and discusses notable mediums and spirit practitioners. The emphasis is on the reality of the effects of spirit communication and mediumship. Every branch of study has its own terminology, and spiritual mediumship is no exception. This course not only clarifies the significance of the words and terms most frequently found in such literature, but also offers a comprehensive outline of the scope and principles underlying an age-old tradition respecting the constitution of humanity and the universe in which we live. Course includes: Introduction to spiritual mediumship, defining modern mediumship, the effects of mediumship, mediumistic phenomena, the difficulties and rewards of mediumship, the phases of mediumship, physical sensitivity and mediumship, and the Bible and modern mediumship. Appendix one is a 67-page glossary of mediumistic words and terms used in SS-105, 106 and 107, while appendix two defines natural laws found in the course. DEVELOPING YOUR MEDIUMSHIP (SS-106/3.0 Credit Hours): This 13-lesson course deal s specifically and in detail with the more immediate and personal considerations involved in the development and use of mediumship, the holding of circles, and the treatment of sensitives. It attempts to assist those who have had indications that they are mediumistic and that spirits are in sympathy with and influencing them. It also attempts to counsel those who desire to become mediums regarding the conditions for the development and the wise exercise of mediumistic powers. Many mediums, when influenced by their spirit friends, display abilities as clairvoyants, character-readers and psychometrists. They diagnose the conditions of those who suffer, and are frequently used by healing spirits to magnetize the sick and cure the afflicted; to give counsel, warning or encouragement to those who are worried and distressed in mind, body or spirit. This course deals almost exclusively with the exercise of the faculties of the inner self under the stimulation and guiding control of spirits. It includes the basis and cultivation of mediumship, how to form and conduct spirit circles, getting mediumship results, the responsibilities of mediumship, practical advise for the developing medium, the cause and cure of obsession and important considerations for the medium.

MEDIUMSHIP AND PSYCHIC SUSCEPTIBILITY (SS-107/9.0 Credit Hours): This 46-lesson course, the final in a series of three courses, is meant for those who desire to cultivate receptiveness, openness, propensity, inclination, vulnerability, etc., to psychic conditions and consciously to realize their relations to the great-unseen realm of "the Spirit world." As self-knowledge, self-reliance, self-mastery, and self-expression are all involved in psychic self-culture, the powers of concentration and psychic penetration, insight, and conscious awareness should not be sought for the gratification of curiosity or for the purpose of making money. Merely experimenting in thought-transference, psychometry, and clairvoyance cannot lead to truly permanent spiritual development. A persevering effort to reach the "higher level condition" of self-expression will be helpful to who's who sincerely aspire for spiritual illumination and the opening up of their inner powers of perception. This course has been written as an on-the-job-primer. It explores definite techniques and investigates the pros and cons of esoteric wisdom and knowledge. INTRODUCTION TO SOCIAL WORK (SW-100/1.5 CH): The field of social work aims to improve the quality of life for people experiencing a broad range of problems due to societal & economic factors, such as poverty & homelessness, or involving personal & family issues like parent-child conflict, substance abuse, & caring for aged relatives. Social work functions include providing services directly to clients, as well as administrative responsibilities such as organizing & evaluating services, managing programs, & developing social policy. This course is not an exhaustive treatment of social work values & your study will require you to access other material along side of it. However, this course will cover some of the key issues faced by social workers in applying values within the context of social work. These issues are not exclusive to any locality & therefore can be applied to other social contexts. You will learn to see the leadership characteristics you bring to the task and spot effective characteristics among your colleagues. You will understand the importance of taking risks, how to become comfortable with the many roles of leadership, gain a willingness to test yourself, how to ask for and receive honest feedback and the importance of enabling growth in yourself and others. THE SPIRITUAL APPROACH TO ANGER (TH-103/3.0 SEMESTER Credit Hours): The purpose of this course is to assist people in learning how to evaluate, understand, and effectively express and create openness to anger. This 6-lesson course explores the psychology, the ethical considerations, and practical ways of dealing with anger and proposes a theology of anger that. The course identifies ways that anger can be harmful and ways it can provide an impetus for constructive action. A three-step technique for evaluating and expressing anger is presented. Part 1 explores the dynamics, complexity, psychological experience of anger at the beginning of life and the psychology of anger throughout the life cycle. Part 2 presents a theology of anger based largely on biblical revelation, the wrath of God, and the Bible's teaching on human anger. Part 3 returns to the theological question raised in the first lesson: How can people of faith find ways to understand and use their anger as a gift of God and avoid expressions of anger that are negative or destructive.

CAREGIVING FOR THE SPIRITUAL PRACTITIONER (TH-104/3 Credit Hours): This 18-Lesson course describes what makes spiritual caregiving distinctive, explains how that distinctive caregiving can become a way of life for individual people, and functions as a how-to manual. It is a resource for people who wonder, "What difference does my spirituality make in the caring and relating I do?" The first nine lessons should be studied before continuing on the rest of the course. The intent is to use the insights and skills addressed in the first nine lessons so that one might be a more effective caregiver to people who experience one of the hurting situations described in lessons ten through fifteen. The last three lessons are designed so that the basic skills developed in the first nine lessons might be utilized in caring for a person who has a hurt, struggle, or concern not addressed in the course. Lesson 16 serves as a guide for a training or support group. Lessons 17 and 18 focus on the results of spiritual caregiving and the resource of spiritual hope that our work comes from and rests securely in God now and in the future.

THE SPIRITUAL PRACTITIONER'S APPROACH TO GRIEF AND DEATH (TH-105/3.0 Credit Hours): Grief is a natural part of life, yet no one is ever completely prepared to deal with it. The experiences of heartache, pain, disappointment, and loss can leave even the strongest of us devastated and searching for an anchor – for shelter from these storms of life. No magic formulas or simple platitudes can make up for the loss of a loved one. Yet, if the spiritual practitioner can understand that each day brings new light and hope, we can help others make it through the long, lonely nights. This 14-lesson course has been developed to equip spiritual practitioners with the information they need to support and facilitate grief situations. First it describes the grief process; it then moves into the healing processes involved. We then move into specific areas such as loosing a mate, the grief of children, and the death of a child, suicide and forgiveness for those who have caused a death, in the conclusion we deal visiting and listening to the bereaved. As an aid to caregivers we have included pastoral after care and dealing with suicide as appendices. Throughout the course we urge the practitioner to turn to God for strength in order to help our constituents to learn to live again the morning light.

It is primarily addressed to a congregation's youth ministry representative, the unpaid member of the congregation who is responsible for overseeing youth ministry on behalf of the congregation. It is written to assist people in establishing a congregationally owned, indigenous youth ministry in their church or center. Included are the five fundamental questions facing those ministering to youth. They are: Youth ministry - What is it? Youth - Who are they? Youth ministry - How will we do it? Youth ministry - Who will do it? Youth ministry - What will we do? However, this is not only a theoretical inquiry into the nature of youth ministry. THE ETHICS, MORALS, AND LEGALITIES OF PASTORAL CARE (TH-109/3.0 Credit Hours): To some it may seem strange that we publish a course on the ethics, morals, and legalities of pastoral care. We do not mean to imply that those in spiritual community do not have a sense of values and do not act ethically. CREATING AN ETHICAL SPIRITUAL CONGREGATION (TH-110/3.0 Credit Hours): This 6-lesson course will be of invaluable help to pastors, theologians, and laity who are committed to helping congregations respond to the huge challenges and changes we are experiencing in the world and the spiritual and religious communities. We try to redefine growth, and with it the definition of success. We have included justice, pastoral care, and spirituality in this vision of spiritual center growth. In lesson one we describe congregations and the complex ways they lived their lives; the model we use tries to make some order of the complexity. In lessons two through five we focus on four different ways all congregations are called to growth: in numbers, in maturity of belief, in corporate effectiveness, and in transforming the outside world. Lesson six sketches the difference between spiritual and religious thinking and calls ministers and leaders of the spiritual community to strive for integrity rather than numbers. In the absolute realm the One Power and One Presence declares, as was revealed to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM.” We, who are the individuated spirits of God, cannot fully comprehend God through personal awareness. In our more enlightened states of consciousness we do know as did John, “He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.” The master key to unlock the doors of inner perception, open all the inner faculties, is spiritual insight. VISITATION MINISTRY FOR THE SPIRITUAL PRACTITIONER (TH-112/6.0 CH): This 16-lesson course is filled with practical information to help you through the visiting process. It will offer you the confidence you need to go beyond your comfort zone and help those who need your presence and when death occurs, the families who are grieving. It will take you through all types of visits: hospital, nursing home, hospices, or homes. All of those who minister to the critically and terminally ill will appreciate the suggestions given.
